We believe it is vital that CAN participants have the opportunity to learn from Autistic and nerodivergent role models.
Many of our program staff and volunteers are Autistic. And for those who may need support to get involved, our Supported Employment Specialist works closely with them to provide accommodations and help build confidence.
One of those staff members is Jefferson Goh in Vancouver.
Jefferson started as a program assistant. He has since progressed to become a support worker and skills coach.
“Caitlin was my Employment Support Specialist,” Jefferson recalled. “And she guided me through everything.”
Working as a program assistant gave Jefferson training, practice, and confidence. And working as a supported employee gave him a dedicated individual at the CAN office to provide guidance.
“When I first started, I used to feel stressed and nervous about new experiences or supporting participants with high needs,” Jefferson said.
“Whenever I had difficulties, I would email Caitlin and meet online. She always explained things so clearly and gave me great ideas, like using CAN visuals and step-by-step supports. They worked perfectly to help participants feel included!”

Over time, Jefferson’s confidence increased. Today, he is a skills coach who creates lesson plans, leads group games, and supports other staff in their roles.
“Because of Caitlin’s support, I grew from feeling nervous to feeling completely confident leading.”
We are fortunate to have staff like Jefferson, whose dedication and passion make an invaluable impact in our programs.
