Let’s get on the ice!
Skate participants develop and practice basic skills, like moving forward, gliding, and stopping.
Each lesson consists of up to 6-8 participants, who are provided with a high ratio of support.
Participants must have a registered account, an autism diagnosis, and be of the correct age when the program starts.

Support Provided
Each program is supported by a range of trained staff and dedicated volunteers:
- Onsite Supervisor: Ensures the success of the program as a whole
- Coach: Delivers curriculum and provides group instruction
- Support workers: Individualize and adapt instruction to each participant
- Program Assistants and Volunteers: Additional program support
Skate programs provide a 1:1 ratio of support to ensure safety on the ice.
We strive to meet the needs of each participant through parent/caregiver collaboration.
Parents and caregivers can provide basic information about their child’s support needs and abilities through their CAN account.*
During the season, don’t hesitate to speak with coaches and on-site staff about support strategies that work for your child (e.g., visual schedules, first-then boards, token systems, social stories, etc).
*If you would like your child’s personal support worker to accompany them to the program, please email us at info@canucksautism.ca.
Our “Activity Storybooks” show participants what to expect at a CAN program!
Participants can read them before their first (or each) session to build predictability.
Download the Skate Activity Storybook to help prepare your child for the program.
