Tax Receipt & Fundraising FAQs

Donations made to Canucks Autism Network will help support families in need while providing you with an income tax deduction.

Thank you to our incredible community of supporters.

As a registered Canadian charity, we issue receipts for income tax purposes to individuals who donate to support the cause.

We have compiled our most commonly asked questions regarding fundraising and tax receipts below.

We are required to follow the receipting rules outlines by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to maintain our charitable status. Read the full CRA guidelines.

General Fundraising

Canucks for Kids Fund (CFKF) is one of our major funders and accounts for approximately a quarter of our total revenue on an annual basis. CAN is a registered charity that operates separately from Canucks Sports and Entertainment.

In addition to CFKF, we benefit from government funding, foundation grants, corporate donations, third-party fundraisers, cause marketing campaigns and individual donations. The largest portion of our fundraising revenue comes from CAN-led fundraising events (ie. Reveal Gala and CAN Pro-Am Hockey Tournament) and campaigns (ie. online auctions, raffles and giving campaigns).

Please contact development@canucksautism.ca and a staff member will be in touch to guide and support you in your fundraising efforts.

Donation Types

Certain donations, other than cash, can be considered gifts in kind. It is possible to issue a receipt for these gifts as long as the amount recorded is the fair market value of the item, as of the date of the donation and as determined by a written valuation by someone knowledgeable in the field.

For more information on how receipts are issued for gifts in kind, please refer to the Canada Revenue Agency’s overview of gifts in kind.

There have been important changes to the taxation of charitable gifts of securities. It is now even more tax-advantageous for you to make a gift of stock rather than cash.

When you donate securities, you will receive a tax receipt for the fully appreciated value of the donation and will not pay any capital gains tax.

Canucks Autism Network will receive a gift amount equaled to the sale value of the shares on the date of sale.

If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to our Development Department via email at development@canucksautism.ca.
