Production
Production of language involves how we express ourselves. This includes mouth and tongue movements required to make sounds, the sequencing of sounds, the vocabulary and grammar used, the intonation, tone of voice, facial expressions and gestures that we use.
Production difficulties:
- Individual may have difficulty with planning the motor movements needed for speech sounds. This may result in minimal spoken language output and/or slower, sometimes difficult to understand speech.
- Individual may use primarily simple sentences, not linking ideas together.
- Individual may use sign language or visual symbols (pictures) to communicate.
- Individual may repeat lines from television, movies or previous experiences. He may also repeat what the instructor, or other participants say, immediately or after a period of time. This repetition is often referred to as "echolalia".
- Individual may not use pronouns, verb tense, etc., correctly, often referring to themselves by name rather than "I".
